Get the most out of your mobile equipment

Without a system to track assets, mobile equipment can easily leave an area, never to be seen again. Learn how workflows integrated with real-time location technology can improve asset utilization, and lead to operational and capital savings.

Are you getting the most out of your mobile equipment? It's a simple question. But the answer may surprise you. Working with a 391-bed community hospital, we discovered they were only using 60 percent of their infusion pumps on any given day. It was a costly inefficiency. And one that we find in many hospitals.

Here's why...

Without a process to effectively manage assets, departments may hoard pumps so they know the equipment will be there when a patient needs it. But these pumps are often hidden away unused. When there isn't a system to track assets, mobile equipment can easily leave an area and never come back. This equipment essentially becomes lost for good.

These are some of the most common things we find when we evaluate how a hospital manages its mobile assets. We start by assessing your current workflow and culture. Once the root causes of inefficiency are identified, we work with you to create improved processes that boost efficiency.

This new workflow is integrated into AgileTrac Asset Manager. It enables you to make sure your new processes are a success by efficiently managing equipment enterprise-wide using Real-time Location System technology.

For example, PAR levels can be set in units, ensuring the right amount of pumps are in the right areas at all times, so departments no longer have to hoard equipment. And managed movement rules can send automatic notifications when equipment moves into an area it's not supposed to be in, reducing the cost of lost inventory.

It's amazing just how much you can save when you more efficiently utilize your mobile equipment assets. That community hospital we worked with?

They saved $1 million every year for the first five years working with us.

One of the major contributors to the savings was their ability to increase utilization of infusion pumps from 60 percent to 80 percent. This enabled them to remove 150 pumps out of their system and reduce rentals by 38 percent.
