Making sure your mobile equipment is in the right condition for care
When there's no way to ensure compliance with internal processes, mobile equipment can be left in patient rooms or put in hallways, becoming nearly impossible to determine whether equipment has been cleaned or not.

Is your mobile equipment in the right condition for care? The answer should obviously be "yes." But what you don't know may surprise you. Working with a hospital with a 275-patient census, we uncovered that only nine pumps per day made it back to central sterile. Seventy per day should have. It was an unknown infection control risk. And one that we see in almost every hospital we're in.
Here's why...
When there's no way to ensure compliance with internal processes, mobile equipment may stay in patient rooms or be put in hallways instead of being taken to soiled utility. It becomes nearly impossible for staff to determine whether this equipment has been cleaned or not.
This leads to another problem. Without an efficient system to appropriately identify the condition of equipment, staff may have to go on pump hunts to search for infusion pumps or any other mobile equipment, wasting valuable patient care time and creating lost productivity costs.
These are common issues that we uncover when we evaluate how a hospital manages its mobile assets. We begin by analyzing your current workflow and culture. And when the root causes of risk and inefficiency are found, we work together to develop process improvements that boost quality control.
To make sure this new workflow is a success, it's brought into AgileTrac Asset Manager. This Real-time Location System technology enables you to efficiently manage equipment and promote good infection control practices enterprise-wide.
Take location movement history reports for example. These reports show exactly where equipment has moved, ensuring mobile assets have been cleaned and are in the right condition for care. And with one-click asset searches, staff can quickly find the mobile equipment needed. Just click "pumps" and you'll find what's clean and available, eliminating the lost productivity of pump hunts and providing confidence that equipment is in the appropriate condition.
It's incredible how much you can improve quality control and reduce inefficiency when you're more informed about your mobile equipment assets.
Take another hospital with 700 beds we helped out. By creating a process to properly circulate assets, they not only addressed infection control issues, but they also were able to significantly reduce mobile equipment inventory, which opened up an opportunity to save more than $1.7 million. And by eliminating pump hunts, they had the ability to save more than $2 million in nurse productivity.
Contact your GE Healthcare representative to find out how you can benefit from being certain your mobile equipment is in the right condition for care.
